Utilizing advertisement platforms such as Google Ads, or the promotional option within social media platforms, that allows you to promote content and reach a broader audience has always yielded positive results when kept consistent, for me. As I began to branch out and woking closely with companies I began to better understand the advertisement process, and how ad generators for social media would be a benefit to me. SEO and SEM became apart of my introduction into a more formal type of paid marketing and advertisement, and with a solid strategy, I began to see my social media platforms grow, and understood that branding and advertising is a paid investment; you have to spend money to make money.

In the social media industry, I learned very quickly that creative content is not always enough to see consistent rise in your analytics: engagement, impressions, likes, follows, etc. As social media has evolved, so have my techniques and approaches. Whether it be for a company, my fellow influencers, or myself, knowing analytics has always created structure and direction for any content that I produced.

Trends & Content

Producing quality content is something that has always helped me when it came to creating content specifically for trends. I have even been lucky enough to start a trend and challenge myself, and I really understood, how incredibly beneficial and powerful it is to learn how to catch the wave of a trend before it’s too late and overdone. There is no exact formula for catching a trend; however, I can say that because I have been on social media for such a long time, in particular with the beauty industry, knowing a trend becomes something that you can sense. I am always able to sense a trend by looking at—how creative the content is, the engagement of the content, and where this person’s inspiration came from. Perfect example, there was a video trend that was going around that originated on the app Tik Tok. Before this trend migrated to various other social media apps, I decided to recreate this concept, and before I knew it, my video was being posted across various social media platforms. I like to compare social media trends to waves, it could take a long time before the perfect wave finally comes, but is gained from catching that wave supersedes how long you had to wait to catch it.

Social Media Skills

I was on social media in its early stages, when I got on Instagram for example, it had only come out two years prior. I say that to say, that I had the privilege of having to constantly learn and teach myself new things from editing applications and desktop software such as:

  • Adobe Photoshop

  • Facetune 1&2

  • Afterlight

  • VSCO Cam.

  • Imovie

  • Final Cut Pro X

  • Adobe Premier

  • Viva Video

I am proud to say that I am proficient in a multitude of editing programs and when it comes to learning a new software or editing application, I am able to learn very quickly.

Industry Promotion

The life blood of any influencers career when they are first starting out is building industry and brand relationships. The way that this starts is by getting their attention. One my not think it requires skill and technique to gain influencer visibility, that this false. No matter the industry, every company on social media is looking to capture “their audience”, not only capture but grow their audience. The best way for companies to do this outside of paid advertisement, is free promotion usually using influencers. The key to getting recognition, in my experience, is matching this company’s aesthetic, understanding and channeling that company message, and producing great quality, and creative content that stands out above the rest.

The relationship between an influencer and a brand is significant as we are seeing now, that more and more brands are taking to social media for marketing and advertisement purposes. As a brand, you are looking for the best representation for your company, and although brands must invest in PR for influencers on social media, quality content is not hard to come by at a cheaper rate than traditional advertising.

Adaptability

There is something else that is very important for all aspects of a person or companies social media page, and that is the ability to adapt to constant and unforeseen changes within the social media platforms. Possessing the ability to constantly adapt to change is something that is inescapable in the social media industry. When there are rumors of platforms such as Instagram “Shadow-Banning” certain accounts, before ignoring this accusation, it is always best to look deeper. In the event that algorithmic changes are taking place adjustments to strategies in marketing and advertisement need to be made. Even adjustment need to be made based on analytical data that is available. Changes to platforms are frequent and unpredictable, and it is always important to have a strategy just in case the changes occur that could potentially hurt your platform.

Video Marketing Initiatives

Something that I like to live by when talking about marketing and advertising on social media is this—Social media is a place that encourages creativity, and non-traditional approaches. Because the social media space is unconventional, the approach to marketing and advertisement needs to be too. The reason why? because now, people have a choice in whether or not they want to engage in content, so for me, as an influencer, must capture an audience’s attention in less than the span of 3 seconds. Not only do I have less than a minute to capture their attention, but I must also do without aggressively forcing a product down my audience’s throat. How do I do that? With creative concepts that make you do one of two things: 1. forget that what you are watching is an advertisement, or 2. create captivating content that engages you to the point that you no longer care about the product being sold because the content is so captivating and entertaining. What I have learned is that the sweet spot in online advertising is a combination of both—making people forget that they are watching an advertisement because the content is so captivating, creative, and entertaining.
